Electronic Pricing

Take a minute and think of how many products are in your average store – grocery or otherwise. The price of each one of these products is represented by a piece of paper, and every time there is a sale, price change, or product change a new piece of paper is needed. That all adds up to a lot of paper! Now, also consider the man-hours needed to create, track and change each of them on a daily basis. That’s a lot of hours!

At Newport Avenue Market we use electronic shelf tags to reduce the waste of such resources. All our digital tags are synced with a master system, allowing for quick and accurate updates storewide. These brainy tags even sleep at night to conserve energy, making their batteries last just short of a decade. In recognition of being the first independent grocer to ever utilize electronic shelf tags, we have received the National Small Grocer Award for Technology.

Eco-Bag Options

One of the easiest ways to reduce your impact, at least in the shopping world, is to stop using plastic bags. To benefit our world and make it easy for you to help, Newport Avenue Market offers a great variety of stylin’ eco-bag options to help you shop smarter, including:

• Jute Bag – Our famous large, sturdy cloth bag. Available every day.
• Woven Metro Bag – Our newest environmentally friendly addition. Look for the green swirl design on these woven, polypropylene recyclable bags.
• BYOB – As part of our effort to help you make the switch, we hold occasional Bring Your Own Bag celebrations – aka BYOB weeks! During these events our customers receive a free reusable bag for every $50 they spend! These exclusive bags give back too, with every one you use on ANY future shopping trip we drop your bill by 5¢ and give the same to our charity of the month. We offer a wide selection of organic, all-natural and sustainable options in nearly every department; including our deli, meat and seafood, produce, and cheeses. Many of our Deli Department containers are biodegradable; including corn-based, clear containers and sugar cane-based, foam-like plates.
